Seventeen years ago I produced this piece for National Geographic Today, a daily news journal broadcast on the newly launched National Geographic Channel. The short two-part piece reflects on the experience of Chinese immigrants as they passed through the Angel Island Immigration Station, located in San Fransisco Bay. Given the atmosphere today I thought it might be a useful exercise to look back once more. The United States may be a nation of immigrants, but today’s situation continues to echo a painful past.
